Apocalyptic Floods, Storms

Torrential rain, floods, and other severe weather events have always been with us. Is it really any different now? They always present a huge challenge and they always will -- we live on a volatile sphere! Is it change? Is it deserving of all the hype?

The recent (November 2009) so-called "Biblical" "one in 1000 years" flooding in the UK -- *1 *2 *3 *4, is yet one more of these challenges. But is it wreaking more havoc than usual because the illuminati have been disassembling dams (selling off the dam property for development due to privatisation of the water works) and natural run-offs (dips in paddocks etc where water used to pool and gradually soak away, which have since been developed and hence allow the water to drain instantly into rivers overloading them)?

The answer is -- I don't know -- but now that scientists have been discredited (See ''Climate-Gate''), I wouldn't rush to assume them to be the bastions of wisdom we once thought they were.

Perhaps the answer is in the eye catching title in several of these media stories... "one in 1000 years". ie: it happened a thousand years ago, probably 2000 years ago, and so on. Floods, by their very nature, are unanticipated.

Or perhaps a lot less than 1000 years ago? "The Worst Storm Ever" in Britain was apparently on November 26, 1703, "15,000 people died in 120 mph winds, the Navy was destroyed and cows were even blown into trees" (source - the UK Daily Express, Thurs Nov 26 2009). We need more of that kind of data published to counteract this kind of hysteria.
